Castle and fortress

The number one place to visit in Kavala is the Byzantine Castle from the 15th century, towering over the city. The road to it leads through extremely picturesque streets of the old part of the city. The effort of climbing uphill is rewarded by a breathtaking view from the castle’s fortress. It is worth going here in the afternoon. The panorama of the city against the background of the Aegean Sea, drowning in the colors of the setting sun, looks simply fabulous. You can also admire the nearby island of Thassos from here.

Kamares Aqueduct

This monumental building from the 16th century is the hallmark of the city. It was built on the order of Suleiman the Magnificent and was used to transport water from the mountains to the city. Its huge and extremely stylish design makes a truly unforgettable live impression.
City Hall – Kavala City Hall is a building that is rather difficult to overlook. This building dates from the 19th century and its grand appearance was inspired by the Gothic style. Right next to the town hall there is a square where you can relax on a bench in the shade of palm trees.

Old Town or Panagia

A walk through the streets of the Old Town of Kavala is a real feast for the senses. Colorful, historic tenement houses and cobbled alleys are full of cafes and local taverns. The smells of Greek cuisine and the views of the local ice cream and other sweets are stunning.

Pier

Every day you can admire the view of the fortress and the surrounding historic houses. Depending on how high the sun is in the sky, this view looks completely different at any time of the day. But every time it’s just as amazing.
