Venice is an ideal destination for a weekend trip, but also for a longer stay.

It is also a great base for further trips around northern Italy. Below is a short guide to the most interesting attractions of the city.

St. Mark’s Square

Walking around St. Mark’s Square, sipping an Italian espresso in one of the atmospheric cafes and admiring the numerous monuments located around the Square, you will feel the heartbeat of Venice. The origins of the Square date back to the 9th century – it achieved its current shape in the 12th century and since then has been constantly delighting visitors from all over the world.

St. Mark’s Basilica

Both the interiors and the façade of the Basilica make a huge impression on visitors. Numerous bronze and gold sculptures, colorful mosaics, marble columns and vaults do not allow you to take your eyes off each other.

Doge’s Palace

The characteristic building consisting of three floors is a historical symbol of the city. The first rulers of Venice walked along the arcaded loggias – the Palace was their residence. Currently, the interiors of the Doge’s Palace house the Museo dell’ Opera.

Lido Island

This is where the oldest and most famous European film event takes place – the Venice International Film Festival. Tourists are drawn to the island by its extensive beaches and numerous clubs. You can only get here from the city centre by water transport.

Venice Bridges

The most famous are the Bridge of Sighs and the Rialto Bridge. Floating majestically over the water canals of Venice, they create a romantic atmosphere.
