Tirana Attractions

  • Skanderbeg Square – the central point of the city named after the national hero of Albania, Gjergje Kastrioti Skënderbeu. It serves as a reference point for tourists, as it is very easy to get to other historic sites in Tirana from this place.
  • Ethem Bey Mosque – the construction of the temple was started thanks to the initiative of Molle Bey in 1798 and completed by his son, Hajj Ethem Bey in 1823. During the rule of the communist dictator Enver Hoxha, it was the only active mosque, but only foreigners could use it. It was reopened in 1991. The interior is filled with frescoes and numerous decorations. It is on the list of religious monuments in Albania.
  • National History Museum – This is the largest Albanian museum. It is located in a building designed by architects working under the supervision of Enver Faja. The most recognizable element of the building is the mosaic, which has become a symbol of the capital. It depicts thirteen Albanians representing different historical periods. Each floor of the Museum is dedicated to subsequent eras, starting from prehistory and reaching back to the communist era.
  • Hoxha’s Bunker – its interior is dedicated to the history related to the persecution that took place during Hoxha’s dictatorship. Inside, there are residential chambers and exhibitions devoted to contemporary art and exhibitions referring to the idea of ​​​​the numerous bunkers that were built in Albania.
  • Opera and Ballet Theatre – the capital of Albania is home to the largest theater stage, which has been granted the status of a national stage, where you can see international dance and song productions.
  • Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF) – since 2003, the capital of Albania has hosted a film festival at the turn of October and November, which is also the most important event of its kind in the country, which is intended to promote Albanian culture and cinematography on an international scale.

The most characteristic and central place of the Albanian capital is Skandebeg Square, from where you can reach all the most important tourist attractions in Tirana. The city is also very attractive to tourists because of its vibrant social life.
