Kutaisi

One of the oldest cities in the world, Kutaisi has a very different feel to cosmopolitan Tbilisi, but that’s part of its charm. Sprawled across the hills and at the foot of the 11th-century Bagrati Cathedral, Georgia’s third-largest city is bisected by the winding Rioni River. On its eastern bank lies the cobbled old town with a timeless, unhurried atmosphere. Spend at least a few days here, exploring the city’s historical and architectural landmarks, delving into the bustling market square, and falling in love with the local cuisine. Kutaisi is a great base for exploring some of Georgia’s most picturesque destinations, so expect some tough choices!
