Chania

Founded by the Venetians in the 13th century - on the site of a former Minoan city, the city of Chania - is today the largest centre of the region. It is to the Venetians that the city owes its most magnificent buildings - the fortified fortress and the city's landmark - the picturesque harbour. Chania is also home to monuments from the city's later conquerors - the Turks.
