Cracow
Krakow is a city with a thousand-year history, the former seat of Polish kings and the capital of the country, and today one of the most important European metropolises. Krakow's Old Town is a unique treasury of works of art, historical memorabilia and monuments that represent almost all architectural styles - from the Middle Ages to the times of modern times.
Main Market
The heart of the city has been the Main Square for hundreds of years – the largest city square in medieval Europe, preserved unchanged since 1257 and entered on the first UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978. For 600 years, the tower of St. bugle call. In the center, there is the Cloth Hall – a medieval market hall – one of the most recognizable Polish monuments.
Krakow has the second oldest higher education institution in Central Europe, after the University of Prague – the Jagiellonian University. In turn, the Wawel Hill, inhabited since the Paleolithic times, was the residence of Polish rulers and a religious center from the mid-11th century. Currently, the Wawel Royal Castle serves as a museum. You can see monuments of Renaissance art here; the arcaded courtyard is a delight – a pearl of sixteenth-century architecture.
Intriguing Kazimierz
Kazimierz is invariably intriguing outside the Old Town – a place of coexistence of Christian and Jewish cultures. Filled with monuments of Judaism of international importance, it is also a lively area – it hosts antiques and art fairs, and live music in atmospheric pubs, restaurants and pubs. The footbridge of Father Bernatka connected Kazimierz with Podgórze – a district forgotten for years and now fashionable, although still atmospheric. Nowa Huta still surprises us with its monumentality and unusual symmetry – the most interesting and complete implementation of the architects of the socialist realism era.
Krakow is also a city of intense cultural life; in 2000, it served as the European Capital of Culture. Annually, nearly 100 festivals and other events take place here, such as Misteria Paschalia, Sacrum Profanum, the Jewish Culture Festival or the Film Music Festival. It is also a city of modern museums where visitors can learn about history interactively.
Krakow captivates with its unique atmosphere – at times lazy, at times full of events, but always unique and inspiring.
